Donald B. Ayres; Real Estate Developer

Donald B. Ayres, a real estate broker and developer whose acreage, commercial projects and homes ranged from the Wilshire District of Los Angeles to the Carlsbad and La Costa areas of San Diego County, is dead at age 85.

He was the 1952 president of the Los Angeles Realty Board and former director of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce. He was at home in Newport Beach when he died July 27.

Ayres also was an avid yachtsman and was 1951 commodore of the Trans-Pacific Yacht Club, the organization that stages the annual Honolulu race. He also headed the Los Angeles and Newport Harbor Yacht clubs.

His survivors include his wife, Mary Alice; a son, Donald Jr.; a daughter, Nancy DeYoung and eight grandchildren. Services were private.
