A group that watches over product safety said Monday that Sylvester Stallone’s latest Rambo movie is full of mindless violence and should be banned.

The British Safety Council, which has 30,000 members, said it had written to members of Parliament and local government councils seeking to ban “Rambo First Blood Part II” from local movie houses. It described the movie as “96 minutes of mindless violence.”

Stallone plays a Vietnam veteran who rescues American prisoners of war in the Southeast Asian country. The movie has broken box-office records in the United States and is scheduled for release in London on Aug. 30.

Britain’s Board of Film Classification has given it a “15” label, meaning anyone 15 or older may be admitted.

James Tye, director-general of the Safety Council, saw the movie during a trip to New York last week and said he found some scenes “truly sickening.” He urged the film board to ban it or at least reclassify it as suitable for adults only.

“Rambo is violence for violence’s sake,” Tye said. “He speaks in a language that appeals to street-gang mentality.”
