Boat Death Suit Filed: A $1-million wrongful-death lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles federal court by the mother of a 22-year-old man killed when a 20-foot speedboat slammed into a buoy in Anaheim Bay off Seal Beach last Oct. 28. Five passengers were killed and four others were injured in the mishap that occurred after a pleasure cruise to the Queen Mary. Marie Katz, the mother of Ronald Flem Meyers of Seal Beach, contended that the buoy struck by the speedboat was uncharted and unlit and had not been properly maintained since 1982. The suit, one of several filed as a result of the accident, names the Navy, the City of Seal Beach, Orange County, and Robert F. and Marilyn F. Sharp, the boat’s owners, as defendants.
