ELIZABETH, N.J. — A 28-year-old who slipped and fell at her parents’ home in an accident she blamed on her “mother’s negligence” has won $35,000 in an out-of-court settlement, her lawyers said today.
Karen Vogler was visiting her parents, Fred and Sally Schelhorn, when she got up from a couch and slipped on a magazine left on the floor, breaking an ankle.
“I have no hard feelings toward Karen,” the mother said. “It was my fault. It’s not like Karen is taking our home away from us. She did what she had to do. . . . She’s our daughter and we’ll always love her.”
The insurance company will pay the money.
