7 Radicals Cleared in Robbery Plots : Still Face Prison Terms on Lesser Charges

NEW YORK — Seven self-proclaimed revolutionaries were acquitted Monday of charges that they plotted to rob armored trucks and free comrades from prison, but all face possible prison sentences for convictions on lesser counts.
Jurors who had reported Friday that they were hopelessly deadlocked on the main charges of racketeering and conspiracy resumed deliberations Monday under instructions from U.S. District Judge Robert L. Carter to try again.
It took less than two hours for the panel, which last week returned guilty verdicts on a variety of charges, to agree on innocent verdicts on all the remaining counts.
Six of the defendants, Coltrane Chimurenga, Roger Wareham, Robert Taylor, Omowale Clay, Ruth Carter and Yvette Kelley, were convicted Friday of weapons charges, and the seventh, Viola Plummer, was found guilty of falsely identifying herself to law-enforcement authorities.
