Santiago Project Heard: About 200 people who protested a plan to build 146 condominiums on what is now Santiago Golf Course Monday night saw the Planning Commission approve some preliminary steps for the development but postpone action on the project itself. Commissioners expressed concerns over a lack of parking and the density of the proposal put forward by Century American Corp. of Orange and requested that the firm’s proposal be rewritten and reintroduced later. Ralph Masek, president of the Santiago Creek Homeowners Assn., said members oppose the project because of the 12-units-per-acre density, increased traffic on Tustin Avenue and nearby freeways and the loss of open space. The course is one of four remaining nine-hole golf courses in the county.
