First Suits Relating to Crash of Delta L-1011 at Dallas-Fort Worth Airport Are Filed
Attorneys Tuesday filed the first lawsuits stemming from the crash last Friday of the Delta Air Lines L-1011 jetliner in which 133 persons died at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.
Attorney Paul Siegel, an associate of San Francisco lawyer Melvin Belli, filed a lawsuit in Miami, Fla., federal court Tuesday morning on behalf of crash survivor Esther Ledford, who is no longer hospitalized, and her husband, Roger Ledford, who was not on the ill-fated jumbo jet.
“It only asks for the jurisdictional amount, which is more than $10,000,” Siegel said. “I’m not in a position to say what her claim is because we don’t know the extent of her injuries as yet.”
Siegel said his firm plans to file between three and five other cases.
Sixteen of the 31 injured who survived the crash were still hospitalized Tuesday, five in critical condition. Medical examiners have identified 81 victims, primarily through medical and dental records and information provided by relatives.
