A court hearing on the disputed special election on the issue of a beachfront hotel has been postponed to Aug. 23 to allow hotel opponents to participate. The hearing had been scheduled for Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court.

The hearing was requested last month by hotel proponents who want a court-supervised recount of ballots from the June election. They believe that several ballots were not handled properly by City Clerk Kathleen Reviczky.

The proposed $31-million hotel, which would be built on the Strand between 13th and 15th streets, lost by two votes out of more than 4,800 cast.

Sheila Donahue Miller, an attorney representing opponents of the hotel, said she requested the delay so she could join the city clerk in defending the election results at the hearing.
