Offshore oil drilling, beach erosion and a host of other North County issues will be discussed when Sen. Alan Cranston (D-Calif.) hosts a community forum in Oceanside later this month.

The 71-year-old Cranston, in the midst of a 35-stop statewide tour, will be in Oceanside Aug. 26. Cranston, who faces reelection in 1986, also will attend a forum at UCSD and a trade luncheon in San Diego, an aide said.

Topics Cranston plans to discuss in Oceanside include a proposal to open five tracts to exploratory oil drilling off the North County coastline, the possible federal designation of an endangered bird, and financing for proposed highway improvement and flood control projects in the city.
