Phillies Win Second Opener

PHILADELPHIA —
Mike Schmidt’s three-run homer highlighted a four-run first inning as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-3 today in the first game since the end of the two-day baseball strike.
A crowd of 18,142 saw John Denny pitch seven innings to earn his seventh victory against eight loses. Don Robinson, making only his fifth start in the last two seasons, dropped to 2-7.
