The World : Uganda Imprisons 1,000
Uganda’s military rulers have put more than 1,000 members of ousted President Milton Obote’s secret police and bodyguard in a maximum-security prison at Luzira, prison administration sources said in Kampala, the capital. Their account corresponded with a report in the Kampala newspaper Munno that said 1,072 people were taken to the prison. Meanwhile, Brig. Basilio Olara Okello, a principal leader of the coup that ousted Obote, was promoted to lieutenant general and armed forces commander.
