Air Traffic controllers in western Mexico went on strike, snarling flights at more than 10 airports. The news agency Notimex said the airport at Mazatlan was functioning at about 20% of its normal activity. The controllers argue that they have not received an emergency salary increase of about $17 a month authorized in June and have been granted no overall raises for five years. Other airports affected by the strike are Mexicali, Guadalajara, Ciudad Obregon, Culiacan, Guaymas, Puerto Vallarta, Hermosillo and Tijuana.
