SFE Technologies Blames Poor Showing on Slowdown in Electronics Industry

SFE Technologies reported a net loss and lower sales for its third quarter ended July 26. The company had a net loss of $1.8 million, or 28 cents per share, contrasted with net income for the same period a year ago of $706,000, or 11 cents per share. Sales for the quarter were $13 million, down 26% from last year’s corresponding quarter.

For the first nine months of the year, sales were $44.7 million, down 11% from the same period in 1984. The company reported a net loss for nine months of $2.6 million, or 41 cents per share, contrasted with net income of $4.7 million for the period a year ago.

The San Fernando-based company said its performance was caused by a slowdown in the electronics industry. The main product of SFE Technologies is a multilayer ceramic capacitor used primarily in telecommunications.
