Boy, 3, Gets New Heart, Lungs

LONDON —
Surgeons performed a heart-lung transplant today on a 3-year-old Irish boy, making him the world’s youngest heart-lung recipient, and the child was in satisfactory condition, hospital officials said.
A spokesman for Harefield Hospital said Jamie Gavin’s breathing was being helped by a ventilator. His parents, truck driver Tony Gavin and his wife, Mary, were at the boy’s bedside.
