A court restrained MCI’s cellular sale to McCaw.

Atlanta-based BellSouth Corp. obtained the federal court order temporarily barring the long-distance carrier from breaking a contract to sell MCI’s mobile telephone assets to BellSouth’s proposed venture partner, Mobile Communications Corp. of America, based in Jackson, Miss. MCI severed that agreement because of BellSouth’s involvement. Mobile is seeking a permanent injunction and unspecified damages against MCI, which now plans to sell the assets--including interests in 12 cellular phone systems and paging services in 50 cities--to McCaw Communications.
