Davitt Named Acting Head of College District

Glendale Community College trustees voted Wednesday to appoint Dr. John A. Davitt as acting college president and district superintendent to succeed Dr. Rex Craig, who died Aug. 3 of cancer.

Davitt, who holds a doctorate in education from USC, has unofficially held the position since Craig became ill in June. The college board confirmed Davitt to the dual role of president and superintendent of the Glendale Community College District until the college can conduct a nationwide search for a permanent successor to Craig.

Davitt said he was uncertain whether he would seek the position permanently.

Arthur N. Rasmuson, the college’s dean of instruction in arts and sciences, was appointed by the board to succeed Davitt as the acting administrative dean of instruction.
