Bertha Gomez, the 3-year-old girl who survived a plunge from the Coronado Bridge when her mother jumped off the structure holding the child in her arms, is recovering at UC San Diego Medical Center and is listed in good condition, a hospital spokeswoman said Wednesday.

Bertha’s mother, Angelina Gomez, 24, died in the Aug. 4 plunge from the bridge. A boater pulled mother and daughter from the bay. Bertha was critically injured and nearly drowned.

She has been moved from intensive care to the pediatric section and is doing “real well,” according to the spokeswoman. Hospital officials expect to release her in the next two weeks.

Gomez, a student at Southwestern College who was separated from her husband, had been undergoing treatment for depression, according to a coroner’s spokesman.
