Tornadoes spawned by Hurricane Danny howled across Alabama’s coal country today, demolishing homes, flipping cars and killing a woman trapped in a mobile home that was hurled over trees.

The twisters slashed up Alabama’s Tornado Alley and struck Parrish at 11:15 a.m., destroying at least four homes and injuring several people in the town of 2,500, Walker County Emergency Management Director John Burnette said. The tornadoes shattered windows, knocked out power to thousands and blocked roads into Parrish, about 30 miles northwest of Birmingham, Burnette said.
