San Diego County sheriff’s deputies in Escondido discovered what they believed to be stolen military electronics equipment Monday when they investigated a suspected chemical spill, a spokesman said.

The deputies were called to an accident involving a U-Haul truck carrying chemicals on Lawrence Welk Drive. After determining that the chemicals were not harmful, they discovered the stolen military equipment, the spokesman said.

The Naval Investigative Service was called and seized the truck and its contents. The NIS is investigating, the sheriff’s office reported.
