An 82-year-old Panorama City man who was shot by police after a brief scuffle in February has died at Holy Cross Hospital, family members said.

Hanna Attalla died Monday after being on life-support systems for several months because of complications from the Feb. 12 incident. He had suffered a gunshot wound to his stomach, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Attalla had been arguing with his apartment manager over his desire to put a crucifix over his door when officers arrived in the 8500 block of Cedros Avenue. Attalla, who was from the Middle East and spoke little or no English, was shot after he lunged at an officer with a kitchen knife, police said.
