San Francisco police are investigating how a swastika-adorned Nazi war poster came to be tacked up inside a police patrol wagon. Mayor Dianne Feinstein fumed that the incident was “plain stupid.” Lt. John Carlin said two sergeants came to Central Station looking for the wagon and the poster, which had been seen and photographed at an anti-apartheid demonstration held by the Spartacus League outside the office of South Africa Airways. Feinstein, who has been highly critical of several incidents in recent months that have embarrassed the Police Department, called on Chief Cornelius Murphy to discipline the officers responsible.
