If you want a clean, sharp little room, Ms. Hodges, motels run around $40 for two, plus $7 apiece for the breakfast, $6 for a bottle of wine (a complimentary frill we offer). That adds up to $60, and there are no gardens to stroll through, no fireplaces in the parlor and dining room, and heaven forbid that you should say hello to the people in the motel room next door; they might run back into their “sharp little room” and shut the door. . .
