Should Conrad Be Ashamed?

Share

In my opinion, The Times reached the lowest possible point in morality, when on Aug. 8, 1985, it allowed its cartoonist Conrad to satirize the nose cancer of President Reagan.

It is extremely cruel to laugh about the misfortunes of a fellow human being, but even worse, to do so in the case of our elected President, whoever he may happen to be. I wonder how Mr. Conrad would feel if he came down with a similar illness and some clown started to make jokes about his demise.

I could go on but I’ll conclude my comments with this thought. I’d rather be cursed with physical cancer as President Reagan is than with moral cancer such as Mr. Conrad has.
