Anaheim : Landlords Reported Gaining on Violations

Share

An Anaheim couple charged with violating the city’s housing codes have “made substantial compliance” but have not yet completed improvements on their eight-unit apartment building, Anaheim officials said Monday.

North Orange County Municipal Court Judge Betty Elias on Friday continued the case until Oct. 23 to give Harold H. and Shelly Brody more time to fix up the building at 1601 S. Hampstead St., Anaheim Deputy City Atty. Terese M. Scanlon said.

The Brodys were targeted during a door-to-door check of the Lynne-Jeffrey neighborhood by city code inspectors in January, Susan Tulley, city code enforcement officer, said. The couple pleaded guilty April 4 but then pleaded no contest May 22 to an accumulation of refuse and waste at their building--one of five charges, Scanlon said. The other charges, which included failing to maintain the landscape, were dropped.

Although the landlords have taken care of “the major things” such as plumbing and electrical problems, they still need to do more landscaping, install smoke detectors and rid the apartments of cockroaches, Tulley said.
