Indian Bureau Director Reassigned to New Post

WASHINGTON —
John Fritz, director of the Bureau of Indian Affairs since 1981, has been reassigned to a new post in the Interior Department, a bureau spokesman said Tuesday.
Hazel Elbert, who had been director of the office of Indian services, was named to head the bureau on an interim basis. BIA spokesman Vince Levitt said Fritz had been relieved of his duties at his own request.
