Bandits smashed display cases at a jewelry store in the Plaza Pasadena shopping mall and grabbed $51,000 worth of gems, police said. Four men and a woman, whose names were not released, were later arrested and booked for investigation of armed robbery, Sgt. Dave Harris said. One intruder brandished a handgun as two others used hammers to break the glass in display cases before fleeing in a waiting vehicle occupied by two accomplices, Harris said. Just outside the mall, a motorcycle officer spotted and pursued the fleeing vehicle. The pursuit ended when the car crashed into a parked car. Last Thursday, four men toting Uzi submachine guns entered a jewelry store at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills and escaped with about $250,000 in jewelry. “They may very well be related,” Harris said. “We’ll be investigating.”
