The Soviet Union has agreed to abide by its long-term grain agreement with the United States by buying about 1.1 million metric tons of wheat remaining under this year’s commitment, Agriculture Secretary John R. Block said today. Block is in Leningrad and his statement was released here by his office.

Earlier, Block said there was some question whether Moscow would buy the remainder of the wheat before the current fiscal year ends on Sept. 30. The agreement calls on the Soviet Union to buy at least 4 million tons each of wheat and corn annually from the United States.
