The Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency has committed more than $500,000 to improve the appearance of the sidewalks on Spring and 6th streets downtown.

Decorative bands of granite--matching the bases of most of the buildings--will be installed in sidewalks adjacent to the curbs on Spring Street between 2nd and 9th streets. The tree wells will also be trimmed with granite pavers.

Brick bands will be installed on 6th Street between Wall Street and Grand Avenue, according to Edward Helfeld, administrator of the agency. A maximum of $337,960 has been committed for the Spring Street work; an additional $237,960 has been allocated for work along 6th Street.

“These pavers will create a uniform theme along these streets,” Helfeld said. He added that the work will be done in coordination with the city’s capital improvement program calling for reconstruction of these same streets.
