AT&T; received a license for a project in Spain.

The U.S. Department of Commerce has granted the project license necessary to begin construction of American Telephone & Telegraph’s proposed semiconductor plant outside Madrid. The license marks formal approval of AT&T;’s plans for a joint venture with Spain’s national telephone company, Telefonica. The venture will design and manufacture semiconductors for use in computers and sophisticated electronic switching equipment.
