A warrant was issued Tuesday for the arrest of a suspect in the fatal shooting of a 34-year-old Hillcrest man. Police said the suspect is the former husband of the shooting victim’s girlfriend.

Cornell Gregory Sarossy was killed Monday when he was shot three times--in the head, chest and abdomen--a spokesman for the San Diego County coroner’s office said.

Homicide Lt. Paul Ybarrando said Sarossy was shot in the backyard of his home on Brookes Avenue. He died shortly after being rushed to Mercy Hospital.

The suspect, Richard Francis Rogers, is still at large, Ybarrando said.

A woman living near the scene of the shooting identified Rogers as the man she said walked out of Sarossy’s front door holding a gun. She said the man looked up and down the street to see whether anyone was watching.

“He looked so perfectly calm when he walked out of the house,” the woman told a reporter. “He just kind of sauntered out the front door.”
