Moorpark to Draft News Rack Ordinance

Share

Ihe Moorpark City Council, in the latest round over placement of news racks, Tuesday night directed the city’s staff to write an ordinance that would require news rack owners to carry liability insurance. A hearing on the proposed ordinance, which would be modeled after one in Glendora in the San Gabriel Valley, could be held as soon as the next council meeting in two weeks.

The long-simmering news rack issue has pitted the owner of the Moorpark Mirror against members of the council, first over placement of a Mirror news rack at the Civic Center, and now over all news racks on public rights of way.

Mirror Publisher Daniel J. Schmidt has said the effort is a slap at him for a controversial article he published in June.
