Richard Nevins announced he will not seek reelection next year to the state Board of Equalization after 27 years on the panel. Nevins, 64, of Pasadena said in a letter to Peter Kelly, Southern California Democratic Party chairman, that he is announcing his retirement early so “those who wish to be candidates will have every opportunity to develop effective campaigns to make themselves known.” The Board of Equalization collects several state taxes. Nevins’ district covers the southern, central and eastern portions of Los Angeles County.
