Bandit on Foot Escapes Notice and Flees From S&L; With $367
A man who walked into the Western Federal Savings & Loan Assn. in Costa Mesa and demanded money escaped with $367 on Friday, police said.
Investigating Officer Robert Michnick said that the holdup man did not present a note or display a weapon when he walked into the bank shortly before 2:30 p.m. He verbally demanded money from a teller, who gave him the contents of her cash drawer, Michnick said.
Michnick said that virtually no one in the bank other than the teller knew a robbery was occurring. He said people in the bank remembered seeing the robber “walking out through the west doors, and that was the last they saw of him.”
