The San Diego Police Department has suspended a reserve officer who was jailed last weekend after being suspected of firing a gun at a car on Interstate 8 during his off-duty hours.

David Watson, 32, of Santee was arrested Aug. 31 on suspicion of two felony counts of armed assault and one felony count of carrying a concealed weapon without a license, jail officials said. He is free on $3,500 bail.

There were no injuries in the shooting incident.

Police said they received contradictory descriptions of the circumstances from Watson and the driver of the vehicle he is accused of shooting at.

The 185 reserve officers on the San Diego police force have the full authority of regular officers while on duty, according to police spokesman Bill Robinson. But they cannot carry concealed weapons without a permit when they are off duty, he said.
