Three Simi Valley men were arrested Thursday night after police raided a rental storage locker and found an undisclosed quantity of amphetamines and marijuana and an “operational military land mine,” Simi Valley police said Friday.

It was the second seizure of explosives by Simi Valley police in as many weeks.

On Aug. 21, police confiscated 30 pounds of C-4 plastic explosive, two land mines, blasting caps, detonating cords and ammunition from a rented storage area and arrested a Simi Valley man on suspicion of possessing illegal explosives.

Sgt. Danny Dunbar said police on Thursday arrested Thomas Kennedy, 24; James Cole, 19, and Steve Wahlstrom, 25, after shooting 10 rounds of tear gas into Kennedy’s house in the 2800 block of Lemon Drive. There was no fire and no one was injured.

Police found a loaded shotgun propped against the inside of the home’s front door, Dunbar said. He said the storage locker is in the 2100 block of 1st Street.

Kennedy was being held at the Ventura County Jail on suspicion of possession of marijuana for sale. A jail spokesman said the other two men were not in custody, and police did not say on what grounds they had been arrested.
