Seniors’ Home Wins Approval: After testimony from merchants, both in support and in opposition to a proposed senior citizens’ home, City Council members overturned a Planning Commission denial and approved the project. Developers plan a two-story building at 1925 Sunnycrest Drive to house about 210 senior citizens. The 129-room facility, scaled back from an original 163-room proposal, was denied Aug. 14 by commission members who said the plan was not compatible with the surrounding area, mostly a commercial zone. Developer Samuel Hirt revised the plan, tripling the amount of open space between the home and a trail that divides the site from houses and winning support from nearby homeowners who previously had objected to it. The council, which acted last week, approved the plan after hearing of the new support.
