Retailer Stanley Marcus, former chairman of Neiman-Marcus, and John Wooden, former UCLA basketball coach, will be featured speakers at the third annual Western Home Center & Building Supply Dealers Show Sept. 19-21 at the Anaheim Convention Center.

More than 7,000 persons are expected to attend the trade-only show, where more than 300 companies are scheduled to have displays, according to a spokesman for Vance Publishing Corp., sponsor of the show.

Marcus will speak at the opening general session, at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 19, while Wooden will describe his motivational theories at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 20.

The Southland home center market is getting increasingly competitive, according to Don Hunter, publisher of Home Center magazine, published by the show’s sponsors.

“In Southern California, two major warehouse-style home-center retailers--The Home Depot and Builders Square--have entered the market within the last 60 days,” he said. “The HomeClub, a membership warehouse, and National Lumber, a conventional home center, are chains that have opened new stores in the same area, challenging an already strong array of existing independent home centers and building-supply dealers.”
