Bones accidentally found on the bottom of San Diego Bay last month have been identified as those of Mickey Lowell, 44, a Coronado businessman last seen Nov. 20, a deputy coroner said Wednesday.

Lowell was seen piloting his boat, Buena Vida, from its slip at the Coronado Yacht Club. The boat was found two days later, abandoned and adrift in the bay.

Even though Lowell owed thousands of dollars to creditors when he disappeared, San Diego Police Homicide Lt. Paul Ybarrondo said the department will not look into the death because investigators don’t believe he was murdered.

The bones were discovered Aug. 15 by a salvage company diver, but identification remained in doubt because no skull was found. Investigators could not determine how Lowell died.
