McMillin Development Co. of San Diego has invited members of organizations for the handicapped throughout San Diego County, along with the general public, to an open house next Sunday at a single-family home especially designed for disabled persons in a standard subdivision.

The home is in the firm’s Devon Hills development in Scripps Ranch North. President Corky McMillin explained that the first home in the program was built in his Captain’s Ridge development in Chula Vista and was bought and occupied by a disabled Korean War veteran and his family.

McMillin said he wants to put at least one such home in each of his projects.

The 2,127-square-foot, three-bedroom, two-bath home on view is priced at $156,900. It is on a level, 8,000-square-foot lot adjoining a city-owned open-space preserve.

It is built to VA handicapped standards and the firm will build it on any lot that will accommodate it in any of its nine new-home communities in San Diego County. McMillin said the two homes are the first in San Diego County to be built in a standard subdivision and among the first in the nation.

The open house is at 12271 Creekside in the Devon Hills development from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday but the home may be viewed any day from the model complex, 11874 Semillon Blvd., reached from Interstate 15 by taking Pomerado Road east. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekends and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
