Yorba Linda : Request Is Issued for Nixon Historical Site

Share

The City Council has unanimously approved a formal resolution asking Rep. William E. Dannemeyer (R-Fullerton) to support legislation naming former President Richard M. Nixon’s birthplace a national historical site and visitors center.

City Manager Arthur Simonian said the resolution, which has been discussed at earlier meetings, asks that the 1 1/2-story wood frame house on Yorba Linda Boulevard and the surrounding area--including the old Richard Nixon Elementary School--be declared a historical site.

In other action, the council Monday unanimously gave preliminary approval to an ordinance that would restrict smoking in public places and businesses, while allowing smoking areas in private workplaces.

If the ordinance is given final approval Sept. 30, the ban will begin 30 days later.
