Southern California Gas Co. told the state Public Utilities Commission that it will not seek a natural gas rate increase because of its “continuing savings” in the cost of gas it purchases. The firm made the announcement in a statement given to the commission in a semiannual regulatory proceeding established by the commission. The utility said the rates would remain stable through at least the spring of 1986. It added that the last increase occurred 28 months ago. “Overall, natural gas rates for residential customers are 3.8% or $61 million a year lower than they were last year at this time,” the gas company said. The utility also told the commission that the majority of its residential customers can expect to see lower gas bills this winter than last.
