The House passed a stopgap money bill today to keep federal agencies in business while Congress tries to finish work on the regular appropriations bills needed for the government’s new fiscal year beginning Oct. 1.

The resolution, passed on a 272-156 vote and sent to the Senate, provides interim funding for 45 days, to Nov. 14. The measure generally would hold spending levels at the fiscal 1985 level or lower. It also contains provisions continuing a congressional ban on offshore oil exploration along the California coast.
