The House Ways and Means Committee announced today that all its work on overhauling the federal income tax system will be done behind closed doors.

The panel, meeting privately to discuss procedures for considering President Reagan’s tax bill, voted 27 to 2 to bar the public, reporters and lobbyists from its deliberations. The committee’s first formal meeting to discuss the tax bill and alternatives to it was scheduled for Sept. 26. No votes are likely before Sept. 30.
