Santa Monica : Council Awards Contract for Beach Work
The City Council voted to award $5.1 million to Terrain Inc. for beach improvements as part of the Ocean Park Redevelopment project. The improvements include three parks ranging from 1.5 to 4 acres, a new food concession and a pedestrian and bike promenade.
The plan has been revised to cut costs by $326,500. The staff recommended building fewer pavilions and structures on the beach and planting fewer trees.
The council also decided to use $1 million that had been set aside for building 55 units of low-cost housing for the beach improvement project. The city will use funds from tax-increment financing to make up the difference later on in the construction of the housing.
