The Chinese Foreign Ministry gave its official blessing to anti-Japanese demonstrations by 1,000 university students in Peking earlier this week. In an official statement, the ministry said that Japanese Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nakasone’s visit last month to a Tokyo shrine commemorating Japan’s war dead ignored Chinese protests and resulted in “hurting seriously the feelings of the Chinese people.”
