Portugal Inmates Riot

LISBON —
Prisoners staged a three-hour riot, setting their mattresses ablaze at a prison 50 miles north of Lisbon, before police quelled the uprising Sunday, authorities said.
Two prison guards and four inmates were treated at a hospital for smoke inhalation and returned to the Val de Judeus prison in Alcoentre. Warden Joaquim Goncalves offered no explanation for the disturbance.
