David Lund, director of Long Beach’s redevelopment efforts for four years, will become executive director of the Los Angeles County Community Development Commission on Tuesday.

Lund, 37, accepted the position last week after a nationwide search by the county. He will make $75,000 annually, compared with his Long Beach salary of $77,600.

Lund’s boss at the county will be James Hankla, who preceded him as director of Long Beach’s Department of Community Development. That department handles redevelopment and community improvement programs, and has been responsible for about $1.3 billion in new construction downtown since 1975.

Hankla also held the county Community Development Commission post to which Lund has been named before being selected county chief executive officer in February.

Lund, who has worked for the city for seven years, was rotated out of Community Development and into a job as assistant police chief in March. He had just been named to a six-month assignment as director of planning for the Port of Long Beach. The switches were part of a program by City Manager John Dever aimed at giving top administrators experience in several departments.

Lund was an administrator for the cities of Norwalk, Artesia and Sierra Madre before coming to Long Beach in 1978.
