Racing driver Johnny Rutherford gained his first victory in four years and Emerson Fittipaldi moved past Mario Andretti into third place in the point chase when a special hearing panel in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., upheld protests by the two drivers in written decisions involving CART races.

Rutherford was awarded the victory in the Molson-Indy 200 at Sanair Superspeedway in St. Pie, Quebec, on Sept. 8, in which he finished second to Pancho Carter, and Fittipaldi was moved up from seventh to sixth in the Pocono 500 on Aug. 18. Both protests involved incidents that occurred when yellow caution flags were out.
