UAL Inc., changing its management structure in the wake of acquiring Hertz Corp. and the Pacific division of Pan American World Airways, named James J. Hartigan, president of United Airlines, chief executive of the holding company’s airlines subsidiary while retaining his presidency. John L. Cowan, executive vice president-finance of United Airlines and senior vice president/administration and finance and treasurer for UAL Inc., will become UAL’s vice chairman and chief financial officer. Frank A. Olson, chairman and chief executive of Hertz, was named a UAL director.

Related appointments: James M. Guyette will become executive vice president/operations of United Airlines with responsibility for three geographic divisions, flight operations, in-flight services and system-operations control; Kurt Stocker will become vice president/corporate communications for United Airlines and UAL, and Monte Lazarus was made vice president-government affairs for UAL.
