A new $57-million patient-care tower has been topped out at California Medical Center of Los Angeles, 1414 S. Hope St.

The project will add 227,000 square feet of new construction and 45,000 square feet of renovation to an existing building constructed in 1964. The medical center has also added a new logo.

The nine-story tower has been designed by Kaplan, McLaughlin & Diaz of San Francisco; general contractor is Kitchell Construction of Los Angeles. Completion is expected by early 1987.
